They are the fashion item women most regret buying, according to a study.
Almost half of those surveyed who had purchased a pair said they shouldn’t have done, with many soon realising that wearing them looked ‘tacky’ and as if they were trying too hard to impress.
Risque see-through tops, crop tops and thigh-boots also made the top ten.
Other key factors were the realisation that an item looks ‘cheap’ (cited by 54 per cent of those surveyed) or it having drifted out of fashion (56 per cent).
And more than a quarter of women (26 per cent) admitted being so upset at how they looked in offending clothing that they destroyed incriminating photographs.
Four in five (79 per cent) confessed to having bought ‘embarrassing’ clothes, the survey of 2,000 women by drinks brand Lambrini found.
However, some only realised their faux pas when it was brought to their attention.
One in five (21 per cent) said they stopped repeating their fashion error only when it was pointed out by a friend, while 19 per cent said they had their partner to thank.
