In Hinduism and Eastern religions Buddhism, a mala prayer bracelet is used
to chant mantras or meditate in order to keep your mind centered. Today, with
frustration and anxiety increasing among people, experts suggest meditation and
chanting mantras to keep the mind focused and away from the negative thoughts
which often crop in the mind. The word mala infers rosary or garland. These
prayer bracelets are made up of 27 beads of wood from precious tones, seeds,
Bodhi (Buddhist wisdom) tree, sandalwood tree or crystals. Normally the
traditional Buddhist malas are made up of 108 beads. Instead of repeatedly
counting the mantras and losing your focus, these bracelets when moved in a
specific direction help you to keep your mind centered on the meaning of the
mantras and keep away all the negative thoughts.
Instead of moving the malas in any way you like, you have to learn about the right method of using them to chant mantras. You can take the help of experts for the same. Following are few instructions through which you can pray and meditate effectively with the help of mala bracelets.
Instead of moving the malas in any way you like, you have to learn about the right method of using them to chant mantras. You can take the help of experts for the same. Following are few instructions through which you can pray and meditate effectively with the help of mala bracelets.
- First and foremost, sit in a comfortable yet good postural position in a mat. Choose a quite corner in your home so that you are not constantly disturbed by the ringing of your mobiles or sound of the doorbell.
- Next, hold the mala in the hand which you are comfortable in and let the beads hang between your third finger and thumb.
- Now use your middle figure for moving the beads towards your body one at a time, starting from sumera, or the summit bead. Keep repeating the mantras simultaneously in soft, low voice. The summit bead is the starting point of your meditation and is normally a bit large from the rest of the beads. Or it may also be made up of three beads that extend from the bracelet. The chanting of the mantras will help you erase all the negative thoughts from your mind and keep your conscious focused on the positive energy and contented thoughts. Be sure that your index finger does not the touch the bead, as part of the normal practice of chanting mantras.
- You need to then keep on moving the mala beads, while repeating a mantra for each bead, till your finger touch the sumera bead. Make sure not to count the summit bead.
- Start the process of chanting mantras all over again and repeat the process four times!
