Jewelries are not something new to the modern world. Human beings used to wear them since those days when they didn't even know how to write or speak. In fact it was since then that they used to decorate themselves with necklaces, pendants and earrings. The fossils of primitive people even prove that human beings 75,000 years ago also wore necklaces and bracelets. These pieces of Indian jewelry at that time were made from materials like animal bones or shiny shells of snails. People also wore beautiful bead necklaces during those days and the beads that they wore were made from mollusks.
Jewelries were mainly worn to display status and power. They were also used for medical purposes. In the primitive days people even wore ornaments as a part of their religious rituals and to guard themselves from evils.
As far as the history of jewelry is concerned, the Egyptians first manufactured it. They were the first one's to employ various methods in making sophisticated adornments. In fact with passage of time jewelry making became a form of art and a passion for many Egyptians. This form of art was gradually adopted in India too and Indian people were also seen making necklaces and earrings with a wide variety of metals and bright color gemstones.
It is not only the bead and gems necklaces and earrings that are popular as Indian jewelry; there are different types of ornaments as well that are famous among the foreigners and the Indians as well. Kundan earrings and necklaces happen to be very popular as a form of jewelry in India. Other than this, pendant and studded earring sets are also popular.
However, amongst all the Indian jewelry, the one that is highly in demand among the foreigners and traders is the antique necklaces and earrings. Antique ornaments in present days are considered to be very fancy and unique. In modern day, these adornments are primarily made in silver or gold and are gone through a process of oxidizing being buried in a clay pot. These pieces of adornments usually have a dull look and that is the specialty of the items. In today's market, any jewelry that is made from materials that are more than seventy-five years old are considered as antique.
