'Our appearance does not define us': Lauren Scruggs makes emotional video to mark year anniversary of her propeller accident

One year after her horrific injury, Lauren Scruggs has spoken of how she sees her accident in a positive light and how it has caused her to re-examine what is important.
Calling aspects of her career 'shallow', the model and fashion blogger from Texas said that she wants to use her experiences to tell young girls 'that our appearance is not what defines us.'
Appearing on E!Online, Scruggs, 24, also credited her faith with restoring her body and mind and claimed that her airplane accident shows 'that god has a different plan and often times it is shocking and unexpected.'

She was joined in the intimate interview by her mother Cheryl and they both seemed reflective as they marked the year anniversary of Lauren's accident when she walked into a still-spinning plane propeller and lost her left arm and eye.
'I think it's just amazing to watch how The Lord has restored me and healed my body in such a short amount of time and miraculous things,' said Lauren.

'I am seeing that this life is way bigger than me and i think that a lot of things that I held important earlier, even in my career were quite shallow and I just want to use what i have been through to talk to young girls and let them know that our appearance is not what defines us, even just insecurities that we may hold onto do not define us.
Acknowledging her unfortunate accident, Lauren also expressed no regret for what happened to her.

'I think he (The Lord) has called me to just be open about what I have been through and to be vulnerable even though its something that i wouldn't have personally chosen for myself,' said Lauren.
'It just shows that god has a different plan and often times it is shocking and unexpected but its still something really beautiful and i want to use that.'
Describing her survival as a 'miracle', her mother Cheryl said that for her, the most challenging aspect of her daughter's recovery was retaining her personality.
'The fact that Lauren's life was spared was a miracle based on the injuries that she had - the fact that she was regaining her personality was a big deal because they didn't know for sure if she would be the same person personality wise,' said Cheryl.

'They weren't sure that she was going to form small sentences.
'Lauren also realises God has a huge purpose for her life.
'For such a young woman to be so mature in her faith is such a blessing for me to see as a mom.'
In November the model and fashion blogger told Katie Couric about her accident, speaking to the television host about her horrific propeller accident.
The Dallas native's interview on Katie this afternoon was just one of several media appearances that she made surrounding the release of her memoir Still Lolo on November 15.
Her parents and twin sister Brittany also spoke to Couric about how they have helped Lauren cope through an agonizing but inspirational recovery.
Lauren admitted in a previous interview with the Today Show that the hardest thing about the accident was loosing her hand.

'It changes your life,' she said. 'You appreciate life a lot more, my compassion for people has strengthened, I have compassion I couldn't have had before. It was a dose of reality, and was hard to see.'
Speaking about living life with only one hand, the fashion blogger and former model said: 'It's amazing how your body just does what it needs to do - things that were hard in the beginning a lot easier now. I don't really think about them now.'
The blonde beauty was also honest in how her injured looks deeply affected her in her interview with Dateline.
'[When I saw myself], I think I just saw the reality of what had happened. I had my eye patch on, I didn’t have my hand, half my head was shaved. I was just thinking, 'Wow. How life can change in an instant and how that’s not the way I have looked in the past.'
